Link Scheme Ltd: Chairman

Link operates the UK's cash machine network which connects the country's 70,000 cash machines.  39 businesses that issue ATM cards or which provide ATM services are members of Link.  Over two billion cash withdrawals were made from Link ATMs in 2017.  Free to use cash machines account for over 96% of the total number of cash withdrawals.  Link operates a financial inclusion programme, to provide ATMs in areas of the country that it would not otherwise be profitable to serve.

City of London Corporation: Chairman of Policy and Resources Committee

The City of London Corporation is the elected local authority for the “Square Mile”, the financial district in London.  In addition to performing the usual local authority functions the Corporation –

  • Provides a range of services and facilities to London and the country - in culture  and the arts (including the Barbican  Centre, the Guildhall Art Gallery and the Museum of London), open spaces (including Hampstead Heath, Epping Forest and Burnham Beeches), three wholesale food markets (Billingsgate, New Spitalfields and Smithfield), education (sponsorship of four City academies, the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and three independent schools) and legal services (the City runs the Central Criminal Court – the Old Bailey).  Through its charitable arm, the City Bridge Trust, the City makes grants of £20 million a year to projects run by charities in London.
  • Promotes the City of London as the world’s leading international financial and businesses services centre.  It does this through research, events and representational work. The City has offices in Brussels, Mumbai, Shanghai and Beijing.
  • Works with neighbouring boroughs and other bodies in London to help regeneration and economic development.

The Policy and Resources Committee oversees and co-ordinates the agenda of the City of London.  The Committee comprises elected members of the Court of Common Council, the City’s governing body.  The Chairman is elected annually and can serve for a maximum of five years.

Mark Boleat has been an elected member of the City of London Corporation since 2002, representing the Ward of Cordwainer and Chairman of the Policy and Resources Committee since May 2012.

 TheCityUK:  Deputy Chairman

TheCityUK is a cross-sector practitioner-led body that covers the whole of the UK financial services industry.  It was established by the City of London Corporation and the industry in 2010.  Its task is to promote UK financial services at home and overseas and to play an active role in the regulatory and trade policy debate.   It provides constructive advice and the practitioner voice on trade policy and all aspects of taxation, regulation and other legislative matters that affect the competitiveness of the sector. It conducts extensive research and runs a national and international events programme to inform the debate.

TheCityUK Board is chaired by John McFarlane Chairman of Barclays Bank.  The Policy Chairman of the City of London Corporation is automatically Deputy Chairman.   An Advisory Council is chaired by Paul Manduca, Chairman of the Prudential.

International Regulatory Strategy Group: Deputy Chairman

The International Regulatory Strategy Group (IRSG) is a practitioner-led body comprising leading UK-based figures from the financial and professional services industry.  It is one of the leading cross-sectoral groups in Europe for the financial and related professional services industries to discuss and act upon regulatory developments.

Within an overall goal of sustainable economic growth, it seeks to identify opportunities for engagement with governments, regulators and European and international institutions to promote an international framework that will facilitate open and competitive capital markets globally. Its role includes identifying strategic level issues where a cross-sectoral position can add value to existing industry views.

It is an advisory body both to the City of London Corporation and to TheCityUK. The Chairman of the IRSG is Mark Hoban, a former City Minister.  The Policy Chairman of the City of London Corporation is automatically Deputy Chairman.

Central London Forward: Board Member and Past Chairman

Central London Forward was established in 2007 as a sub-regional strategic organisation representing the eightcentral London local authorities: Camden, City of London, Islington, Kensington and Chelsea, Lambeth, Southwark, Wandsworth and Westminster.  Its primary objectives are to influence policy on major issues affecting Central London, to promote the strategic importance and needs of Central London and to identify and facilitate coordinated working on areas of mutual interest to partners.

London Councils: Vice Chair of the Executive Committee

London Councils is a cross-party organisation, funded and run by local authorities in London to work on behalf of them all, regardless of political persuasion. The main policy decisions are taken by the Leaders’ Committee, which meets monthly and brings together the leaders of all member authorities.

London Councils:Pensions Collective Investment Vehicle Joint Sectoral Committee: Chairman  London Councils has established a collective investment vehicle which will help secure substantial savings in fund management costs for those local authorities that wish to participate.  The new vehicle became operational at the end of 2015.

London & Partners:  Board Member

London & Partners is a not-for-profit public private partnership, funded by the Mayor of London and a network of commercial partners.   It works in partnership with organisations in London and across the world to deliver promotional services.  London & Partners was created in order to bring together the remits of the capital's promotional agencies: Think London, Study London and Visit London. The aim is to have one single promotional organisation for London that can speak with one voice, vision and mission to all audiences in the UK and internationally.

Centre for London:  Board Member

The Centre for London is a think tank, which works to promote a wider understanding of the challenges facing London, and to develop long term, rigorous and radical policy solutions for the capital.

Yatterbox Ltd:  Chairman

Yatterbox Ltd, part of the Cicero Group monitors and analyses social media activity by politicians and other stakeholder groups.
